How much closer will you be to your ideal weight if you don't start today?
Randy Hogue is the Lead Pastor at Citrus Heights Community
Church, the Church on Mariposa in Citrus Heights, California.
He and his wife, Faye, served a Christian retreat center in the
Sierras for over a decade before coming to the Citrus Heights
Church.
One day Randy came home and because of his weight was
breaking things in the house simply by sitting down on them
or bumping them.
He weighed 300 pounds.
Randy was 120 pounds over-
weight and started breathing
hard and wheezing. He got
out of breath just going out to
the car or from building to building at the church facility. He
didn’t feel like working, exercising or doing some of the very
simple things of life. He shared often, “I feel (physically)
miserable.”
It was out of Randy’s study of
God’s Word that he realized
that God wants us to involve
Him in every area of life. He
even wants to help us with our
weaknesses. This is when he
decided to put a manual
together that would help him and others to ask God for help.
He began noticing others within the church that needed help in
this area and prayed that God would help him help others
with the same type of weakness.
Randy then began to say,
“I’m giving God
My Lowest
For
His Highest.”
“But he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my
power is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore I will boast
all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's
power may rest on me.” 2 Corinthians 12:9
God wants us to give him every area of life. That includes
not only our strengths and best things of our lives but also our
weaknesses or our lowest things of our lives.

"Weight control is definitely my weakness. I’ve made Jesus
the Lord of my weakness. We’ve all heard that we’ve got to
give Him our best. I agree. I think if it stops there, we are
limiting all that we allow God to do in our lives.
The ideas behind giving God My Lowest are paramount to my
success in weight-control.
This is not a standard I’m pushing. It is a principle God
commands. If we do not comply, we are disobeying God’s
command. We are sinning.
“Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and
that God's Spirit lives in you? If anyone destroys God's
temple, God will destroy him; for God's temple is sacred, and
you are that temple.” (1 Corinthians 3:16-17)
I’m sorry but many Pastors, including myself, Church
Leaders, Denominational Leaders, Worship Leaders,
Evangelists, etc., have really messed up in this area.
If we put something in God’s temple, we are responsible for
that thing and the consequences of that thing.
Many are more concerned about HOW they feel emotionally
to the point they neglect themselves, physically. That’s why
many “stress eat.” That’s why many drink alcohol or take
drugs. If I eat that piece of bread or English muffin or donut
or those nachos or that bowl of chocolate chip cookie dough
ice cream without monitoring my calories just because I want
to feel better and be satisfied for one hour, then I’m saying to
my God, my family, my church, my community, my friends
and others that I care more about me. It’s for MY highest not
His. I must be able to do ministry and I must be able to lead
others to do ministry. If what I am doing hinders ministry then
I am not doing what God wants me to do.
It is a sin to neglect yourself physically! Listen to me!
IT IS A SIN TO NEGLECT YOURSELF PHYSICALLY!
(Pages 13-14)
I know some of these things are hard to read but it is the
truth and the truth will set you free. It has for me.
I feel great now that I'm controlling my health and at 66
pounds less than when I began, I'm able to do so much more
in ministry!!!!
I wish you well on your journey to "CONTROL."
